UT4 Hub Tickrate Set to 100

The tickrate on the Unreal Carnage Hub has been changed from 60 to 100 and it seems to have better performance overall. One of the most notable differences is that it seems to have reduced instance crashes.

Epic has made bug fixes in that regard in the most recent build but there still have been a few crashes. So far, with the server tickrate at 100, there have not been any instance crashes on the Hub.

@utgame Skaarj Flickr Page Updated

Epic has updated the Flickr page dedicated to their WIP efforts on the art side (Flickr link added to left sidebar).

The Skaarj images shown on the stream this week have been uploaded with several provided at very high resolution. Awesome!

UT Project Update: Skaarj Reveal! #UTCTF

On today’s UT project update, Chris Perna officially revealed the new Skaarj character which will be released next week alongside the new female character.

In addition, Chris also showed off a screenshot of the meshed version of CTF-Outside which will be renamed CTF-TitanPass and it is looking beautiful. This will also lead to the release of the “Castle” asset set which should really fire up the mapping community.

Flak also announced the winners of the #UTCTF contest to send a couple of lucky winners to the 9/18-9/19 Epic Community Event. Congrats to fb.pb and Fe4r! Be sure to watch the stream replay HERE.

Unreal Engine 4.9 Released!

Unreal Engine 4.9 has been released and along with it, the usual massive list of updates. It truly is mind boggling how many updates the Epic engine team crams into each new release!

Hub Instance Crash Fix Coming Soon

RZE has stated in the UT Forums that the issues causing Hub instance crashes are being worked on. It seems to be centered around the Flak Cannon strangely enough.

This explains why the Unreal Carnage Hub had a 16 player iCTF match going for several hours last Friday night with no issues. No Flak Cannon in instagib :).

New Rocket Launcher Renders from YemYam

YemYam released some new renders of the Rocket Launcher that we will see in the Community Event build expected on or before 9/18.

As is typical with YemYam, it is a beautiful, extremely professional piece of work!

Today was the official announcement of Bosskey’s new game with Cliffy at the helm. The LawBreakers trailer released today is just a teaser with a gameplay trailer expected this Friday.  I’m in!

UT Project Update: Update From The Art Team + Surprises!

On today’s UT project update, the big announcements were a new community event and a new character reveal. Epic announced that they will be having a community event on September 19th with the primary focus of that being a test case for a competitive CTF event.

Pete Hayes showed off updates to the sniper rifle in game and Chris Perna discussed the design of the first female character for the game. To finish it off, Chris ended with some incredible renders of the new character which were quite stunning.

Steve mentioned that there will be a new build possibly this week, but the big push will be the build for the community event which will have a completed CTF-Outside map and another brand new, unannounced CTF map. The next few weeks will be quite exciting in UT-land!

Work Progressing On Adding Voice Taunts in UT4

Say what you will, but one of the things that really brings UT to life in my opinion, is the hilarious taunts. It’s one of the things that really stood out to me when UT99 was released and it gave all of the characters… well, character :-).

This past week, the following Github commits were made by Steve Polge:

– WIP getting character voices working.

– Voice taunts WIP

– Adding autotaunt controls. Prioritize all announcements above taunts,…

– Don’t stack up taunts

Looking forward to seeing this part of the game start to come to life!
