New Rocket Launcher Concept from Gooba

As shown on the UT project stream this week, Gooba has been working on a new concept for the rocket launcher. There have been a number of attempts at it in the forums, but none of them quite got “there” in my opinion.

With Gooba’s latest attempt, he has put quite a bit of effort into making a plausible design with great animation potential. Folks, this is the “one”!

UT Project Update: IRC and HUBS with Raxxy, Community Event and Maps

Today’s UT Project Update showed off Raxxy’s IRC chat connection into HUBs. Way cool Raxxy!

Steve mentioned that there should be a new build for this weekend’s community event. Will there finally be movement changes in this one? The timing would be perfect, especially with Hypno expected to be in attendance.

Flak posted a schedule for this weekend’s event starting around 1pm eastern. It should be posted soon on the UT blog.

Ragnosaur Unreal 4 Tech Demo by Rippster

Rippster (aka Eric Wilkinson) posted a tech demo of his work in the Unreal Engine forums and it is incredibly impressive. What is equally impressive is if you do a Google search on “Ragnosaur”. This thing has exploded everywhere!

UT Project Update: HUB Update and Enhanced Spectator Support

Okay, this is the project update I’ve been waiting for! Significant HUB updates are on the way in next week’s build and it looks like it will be a much better system. There is still much that can be added in the future like mapvote in an instance etc. but this should be a step in the right direction.

Steve Polge showed off a greatly enhanced spectator mode which should make many people happy. There are some new twists like projectile cameras similar to Rypelcam that will make recording demos easy when that system becomes more robust.

Clawfist reviewed some community maps that are looking good such as DM-Vicious by Numb51.

The last major announcement was that Epic will be hosting a new community event soon with vastly increased streaming during the event. Should be fun!

UT Project Update: Community Weapons and Gametypes

This week’s project update was quite interesting with several announcements regarding weapons.

In addition TimEh was the special guest with the discussion centering on his Speed mod and Domination mod. Hopefully his Domination will just get pulled into the game. It is quite amazing that it is set up to work on any deathmatch map.

Hourences/Futuregames CTF Levels

Long time uber UT community member Hourences posted in the UT Forum Level Design section last week regarding a class he taught at a game development school called Futuregames. The forum thread contains posts from each class member and the map they created.

From Hourences: “Over the last 3.5 weeks I introduced students at the game dev education Futuregames in Stockholm to UT, and had them create UT levels. Our goal was to make 6 to 10 player CTF levels with solid gameplay. Blockout levels, focused entirely on gameplay.”

UT Project Update: Futuregames Levels and Community Map Review

This week’s project update consists of a call-in by Hourences along with a discussion of his Futuregames work. In addition, Sidney performs a walkthrough of some community maps in addition to his own awesome looking CTF-BigRock which should be in this week’s build.  It sounds like there will also be another new Deathmatch map in this week’s build. The more the merrier!

Most notable in the discussion (IMO) was Steve almost quietly mentioning that likely in next week’s build, we will see some changes on movement and weapon balancing. He stated that he will be getting back on to those systems again for a bit which is music to many people’s ears since movement has not been appreciably changed in months.
