DM-Hyperblast Alpha from Sneh

Well, I can always count on my fellow nostalgic type Sneh to bring back some of the classics. It’s very early days but he’s been playing around with DM-Hyperblast in UE4.

The new UT could possibly see a Deathmatch alpha release in a few weeks. Might be nice to have a DM-Hyperblast alpha to go with it!  Hint, hint Sneh…

5/15/14 Unreal Tournament Twitch TV Update

Epic will be continuing to give updates via the Unreal Engine Twitch TV channel to cover progress on the new Unreal Tournament. Today’s Twitch covers movement concepts primarily.

Nick Donaldson has already provided a quick movement prototype to get further discussions going in the forum. If you have a UE4 subscription you can download it from the Github and try it out!

Updated Unreal Tournament Reveal Announcement

Epic has produced an updated video to present the how’s and why’s of the new Unreal Tournament. Great to see Steve Polge and Stacey “Flak” Conley involved in this. You had to figure that they always wanted to do something like this so this must be a hugely fun, yet slightly frightening thing for them to tackle!

Michiel van den Bos To Write Music For The New UT!

I almost fell out of my chair seeing a post in the new Unreal Tournament forums by Michiel Van Den Bos! His quiet post where he sheepishly announces himself thinking that people didn’t remember who he was is followed by a MASSIVE love-fest for him and his cohort Alexander Brandon!

Seeing that I wake up every morning to Foregone Destruction on my phone alarm, the fact that he and Alex are showing interest in making music for the new UT just puts this whole thing into the stratosphere for me!!

Open Tournament Discontinued

This is not a huge surprise given the announcement of the new UT. OT Lead Victor Blanco posted the following in the UE4 forums:

This project gets discontinued, Epic new Unreal Tournament is all we wanted from Open Tournament, so OT doesnt have a reason to exist now. The OT team and chat will still be there, for discussions and help regarding UE4.

We may never know for sure but it is quite possible that OT actually forced Epic’s hand into doing a new UT. The fact that they are just starting RIGHT NOW is quite interesting. Victor and the team will just be moving over to the new UT so all it not lost.

The OT forum is already down so I will be removing site links to that project and focusing on the new UT. All hail the  new UT!!

Open Tournament: Weapons Update

OT Project Lead Victor Blanco has posted the following update:

“Newest improvements: We now have proper death and damage. Completely new weapon system, wich has pretty big blueprint support, its only 1 weapon c++ file, the rest is in blueprints. Current weapons, flak cannon, assault rifle, minigun, Rocket launcher half working. Everything works multiplayer just fine”
