DM-Unsaved:
The wait is almost over for mappers that successfully submitted maps to Phase 2 of the Epic Games and Mapcore level design contest. Good luck to all contestants!
Epic has released a new build of UT with a number of changes, some of which were quite unexpected. On the unexpected side is the MAJOR overhaul of CTF-TitanPass visuals. Epic put an enormous amount of work into using the TitanPass update to test improvements in player visibility.
Part of the fallout from this change is that community mappers that have used TitanPass assets in their maps have quite a bit of repair work to do to fix graphical errors. Go HERE to see the full changelog.
One of the best threads on the UT Forums, entitled “Unreal Universe Monsters! Lets make some art together!”, is now up to 17 pages long! The thread, which was started by KazeoHin, has continued to produce some of the best art and modeling that can be seen on the forums.
AndyN, who has been working on a Krall model for quite some time, has gotten the model far enough along to import it into the game as a static model. Here’s hoping that all of the monsters created in this thread will turn into a real UT Invasion game type at some point.
Well the @utgame Mapcore contest torture is over. As to be expected given the short time frame, most people didn’t get to the point they wanted. However, it is fantastic to see the maps that came out of it and the creativity involved. Congrats to all contestants that submitted!
Here’s a fly through of DM-Maelstrom that I submitted:
For people making maps for the @utgame Epic/Mapcore level design contest, the deadline is rapidly approaching. With the final date set for July 4th, there’s about a week left to go. Yikes!
For people with day jobs, it has been essentially a speed-mapping, coffee swilling, sleep sapping couple of months. Hang in there mappers!
So this is something I’ve been hoping for – an @utgame level designer making a video documenting the process that Epic uses to make a UT4 map from start to finish.
Chris is documenting the creation of CTF-LostTomb, a new CTF map for UT4. It will be a 6 part series but at the time of this writing, it looks like parts one through three are available.
If you are making maps for you UT4 or want to make maps for UT4, YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS VIDEO. Thanks Chris!
Even though MoxNix can no longer post on the UT Forums, he has continued to crank out enjoyable maps. He has several UT99 remakes in various states of development alongside all-new custom maps such as DM-Eliminator.
Most if not all of his maps are on the Unreal Carnage Hub, so an alternative to downloading them individually would be to either play them on the Hub or click the Download All Content button.
To download the maps individually, you can go to his website, and click on the “Map Files on Google Drive” link. As always, downloaded files get placed into the following location: C:\Users\”username”\Documents\UnrealTournament\Saved\Paks\DownloadedPaks
I’ve also added a link to his site on the left side of this page under the UT Community section.
DM-Bishop WIP:
Unreal Engine 4.12 was officially released today even though UT has been using a pre-release version of 4.12 for quite a while. One of the big new features is the new Sequencer for real-time cinematics and cutscenes. If you’re using Matinee to make fly-throughs of your maps, you might want to take a look at the new features in Sequencer.
As usual, the full changelog is freakishly long. Go HERE for the full details.
