April 6, 2015 / MauL / Comments Off on DM-FractalCore UT4 WIP by Venguard
Venguard has been hard at work putting together a Fractal remake using the Outpost23 assets. It is still an early WIP but is coming along quite nicely.
I’m looking forward to putting this one on the Unreal Carnage HUB when its done! Follow the progress on the forums HERE.
April 4, 2015 / MauL / Comments Off on Evilmrfrank: Unannounced Unreal Engine 4 Game (WIP2)
Evilmrfrank is at it again, this time showing off some footage from a standalone, unnamed game he is building. As usual, the visuals are incredible! I’m definitely going to keep my eyes on this one.
April 4, 2015 / MauL / Comments Off on UT Project Update: New Epic Map Announcement and Community Map Review
The big news in the week’s update is the announcement that CTF-Outside will get the “Outpost” treatment as Epic’s next finished map.
The exciting part about this from a mapping standpoint will be the large amount of assets for map making that will be available in a castle themed and outdoor environment “bucket” when the map is done. At that point, we will begin to get more completed community maps with all of the assets available.
March 28, 2015 / MauL / Comments Off on Fortnite Live – An Introduction to Fortnite
This is the first episode on “Fortnite Live” where Epic discusses some of their goals with the pre-alpha. Some players that have signed up for the pre-alpha have not gotten access and Epic explains some of the challenges that they are facing with their business approach to Fortnite.
Epic is covering every aspect of Fortnite from development, cloud infrastructure, and self-production of the game. It is quite a bit to take on for a relatively small company so it’s clear to see that they are being very careful.
Also on the video is a substantial amount of gameplay footage. Will be interesting to see how this all comes together.
March 27, 2015 / MauL / Comments Off on UT Project Update: Map Review, Marketplace Update and More
Well, the title of this week’s UT Pre-Alpha project update is a little deceptive because the bulk of this one covers community map walkthroughs. What does that mean? It means that there is no substantial news on UT this week.
Flak does mention that Epic will be at the ECGC in April so hopefully there will an interesting update for that.
March 21, 2015 / MauL / Comments Off on UT4 HUB Issues: Memory Problems Persist in 3/18 Build
Apologies to players on the Unreal Carnage HUB experiencing issues. I was hoping to be able to run this on a 2 core/2GB RAM VPS but I had to increase it to a 3 core/3GB RAM unit tonight.
While this upgrade kept the HUB from crashing, the night still ended with a bunch of zombie game instances running in RAM. This was supposed to be fixed in the 3/18 build but it looks like it has reared its ugly head once again. It’s a pre-alpha folks…
March 18, 2015 / MauL / Comments Off on New UT4 Build and Unreal Carnage HUB update
On the UT project update today, they announced a new build a little earlier than usual (Fridays are typical). This is primarily to stabilize servers and HUBs.
The Unreal Carnage UT4 Hub is back up and running tonight so hopefully it stays stable. There were instance lockout problems and memory leaks that were causing the previous version to crash.
If you can, please leave feedback on the forum on this site if there are issues or requests.
March 18, 2015 / MauL / Comments Off on UT Project Update: Weapon Models, Project Update
This week’s project update primarily features YemYam discussing the state of weapon development along with some tips for community developers.
It was another project update gone by where movement was not discussed. Would be nice to acknowledge some of the efforts done by Brizz/raxxy in regards to making the movement more enjoyable for most players.
March 14, 2015 / MauL / Comments Off on Boss Key’s “Project BlueStreak” Pre-Alpha Teaser
There’s quite a bit of competition going on right now with pre-release arena fps’s! Not to be outdone, Cliffy’s Project Bluestreak released a pre-alpha teaser showing some nice imagery but no game play.
I’m certainly not going to complain about another UE4-based FPS!
March 11, 2015 / MauL / Comments Off on UT Project Update: Outpost 23 with the Art Team, GDC
This week’s UT pre-alpha update recaps the mega UT week at GDC and Chris Perna’s new flak shell design. In addition, they do a walkthrough of DM-Outpost23 which was a big hit last week and GDC and online.
One interesting remark for Chris is that he clearly states that they are not done with character lighting and Outpost23 itself. Will be amazing to see the visuals get even better!
