If you were on the fence about whether or not to try out the UT4 pre-alpha, this video by Redfox should seal the deal.
Still a long way to go but the game is VERY playable at this point.

Joe Wilcox posted a video of new HUD functionality that he has been working on over the holidays and I have to say I’m really looking forward to trying it out.
It adds quite a bit of functionality with one of the key elements being variable opacity of the vertical weapon bar which is a huge problem for me right now.
Here’s a training video that Zaccubus posted a while back but I thought I would call attention to it again because it is very well done.
This is a must-watch if you feel you need to improve your UT skillz.
Thanks to RZE, Mysterial, PeteNub and the gang for staying late to get this build out for the holidays. Epic is shut down for the next two weeks so that was a close one!
As usual, use the Launcher to get it or if you’re a 32-bit-er, you have to go into the forums and download from there.
OwnedWell is starting to stream UT4 matches now and this edition includes some great matches with Zaccubus showing extremely well.
Interesting to watch Zaccubus’ training videos and then watch him put those skills into action in these matches. This match was streamed on 12/2/14.
This week’s UT project update included some long awaited reveals and a surprise edition to the game. Joe finally revealed his first cut of the HUD, which I will reserve judgement on until I use it in-game.
In addition, Joe revealed his Hub concept (formerly the Lobby) which will be a social gathering place in game to set up matches etc.. I have some questions about it, but in general, as a server admin, this is really exciting stuff!
For the surprise edition (for me anyway), the low-poly mesh of the new Enforcer was added. Great to see that start to get in game!
Hopefully we will see all of this stuff in the final build before the holidays.
Unreal Carnage is now on Twitter so be sure to hit the ole’ Follow button. It’s auto linked to this site so it’s a good way to stay updated with this site plus I’ll be tweeting about many other UT and Unreal Engine related items.
Be sure to watch the 12/17 UT Project Update tomorrow. To quote Flak from the Unreal Tournament Forums:
“What’s the Hub you ask? The Hub is Unreal Tournament’s new lobby system that Joe will unveil this Wednesday during the live stream! After the hub is introduced, we’ll be taking your questions about it from the Twitch chat. ”
They will also be showing more of the new HUD. Will there be a new release before the holidays with the Hub and the HUD? *holds breath*
What is likely the last build of the UT pre-alpha before the new year was uploaded today. Highlights in this build include a crazy new, water-based map with a twist called DM-Cannon.
Other items to note are a revised flak cannon and many other subtle changes. As usual, use the Launcher to get it.
Gooba has been away from the UT forums for a couple of weeks and just when my UT-happiness meter was about to hit empty, he posted an image of a shock rifle ammo counter with animation. Thanks Gooba!
