Epic will be continuing to give updates via the Unreal Engine Twitch TV channel to cover progress on the new Unreal Tournament. Today’s Twitch covers movement concepts primarily.
Nick Donaldson has already provided a quick movement prototype to get further discussions going in the forum. If you have a UE4 subscription you can download it from the Github and try it out!
So we’re all psyched about the new UT and then along comes Lady*D to remind us that there is still fun to be had in UT3! She’s put together a sweet frag movie showing off her bonecrushing skillz.
I will be ready for some beat down if Lady*D ever shows up on the MCC server… Nice job Lady*D!
Epic has released a new free demo pack on the Unreal Engine 4 Marketplace. It is called Sci-Fi hallway and is a downright amazing display of what can be done in this engine.
This seriously has me drooling over the potential visuals possible in the new Unreal Tournament!
Epic has produced an updated video to present the how’s and why’s of the new Unreal Tournament. Great to see Steve Polge and Stacey “Flak” Conley involved in this. You had to figure that they always wanted to do something like this so this must be a hugely fun, yet slightly frightening thing for them to tackle!
I almost fell out of my chair seeing a post in the new Unreal Tournament forums by Michiel Van Den Bos! His quiet post where he sheepishly announces himself thinking that people didn’t remember who he was is followed by a MASSIVE love-fest for him and his cohort Alexander Brandon!
Seeing that I wake up every morning to Foregone Destruction on my phone alarm, the fact that he and Alex are showing interest in making music for the new UT just puts this whole thing into the stratosphere for me!!
This is not a huge surprise given the announcement of the new UT. OT Lead Victor Blanco posted the following in the UE4 forums:
This project gets discontinued, Epic new Unreal Tournament is all we wanted from Open Tournament, so OT doesnt have a reason to exist now. The OT team and chat will still be there, for discussions and help regarding UE4.
We may never know for sure but it is quite possible that OT actually forced Epic’s hand into doing a new UT. The fact that they are just starting RIGHT NOW is quite interesting. Victor and the team will just be moving over to the new UT so all it not lost.
The OT forum is already down so I will be removing site links to that project and focusing on the new UT. All hail the new UT!!
Steve Polge has stickied a post in the new UE4 Unreal Tournament forums discussing the basic concept of how the new UT development will work. Check it out HERE. I have never seen forums start with so much activity in my life!!
A completely free game co-developed between the community and Epic! This is really exciting to me but I’m sure it is not as exciting to the people that were hoping for a full blown game. Personally, if Epic gives strong leadership on this, this will actually be better than any UT before it IMO.
They will build a Deathmatch core to start with and engage the community completely. If you have a UE4 subscription, you will be able to start working on parts of the game right away.
I think this probably means that Open Tournament will no longer be needed. I think some of what has been done already there will able to be brought over. Certainly the maps.
I know there will be a ton of whiners about this announcement but I am PSYCHED about this! Great to see Epic getting behind this and to see Steve Polge and Flak on the Twitch was great.

I know all of my fellow UT fans are stressing out in regards to what will be revealed tomorrow. I think most of us are afraid to walk away disappointed but who knows, we could be massively surprised.
Whatever the announcement is tomorrow, I think I will be most surprised if it is a conventional reveal of an all-new, full blown AAA game. Most people are thinking it will be a basic game shell that will launch into a community effort to showcase Unreal Engine 4. I would be fine with this actually since it will be more than I expected from Epic (which was NOTHING!).
