Epic announces livestream to reveal “future of Unreal Tournament” on May 8th!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy crap I did not see this coming.  Mark Rein tweeted that the future will be revealed on May 8th!!! Cough, cough, I think I feel like I’m coming down with something… on May 8th…

Another tweet from Epic’s Paul Meegan is extremely interesting. “UE4 Dev Community + Epic. The future of Unreal Tournament,” he tweeted. I’m almost wondering if they got spooked by Open Tournament. Are they wanting to join forces with OT??  Who knows, I guess we’ll find out next Thursday!

Open Tournament: Weapons Update

OT Project Lead Victor Blanco has posted the following update:

“Newest improvements: We now have proper death and damage. Completely new weapon system, wich has pretty big blueprint support, its only 1 weapon c++ file, the rest is in blueprints. Current weapons, flak cannon, assault rifle, minigun, Rocket launcher half working. Everything works multiplayer just fine”

Open Tournament: Movement Comparison

Numb.51 of the Open Tournament team has posted an interesting video showing some movement characteristics of the current build along with early images of his Deck remake. In the video, he compares UT, UT2004, and UT3.

From a forum post in the Unreal Engine forums, Numb.51 states:

This video shows a comparison of every iteration of Unreal Tournament’s movement system with Open Tournament. Mainly we increased the gravity scale since we decided to include dodge jumping. Dodge jumping in UT2k4 was floaty and caused the game to be hit-scan dominant. Hopefully UT2k4’s movement and UT3 weapons will make a great game play experience.

Unreal Engine 4.1 Coming Next Week

It looks like Epic is going to make it really difficult for folks like me who were planning on subscribing to UE4 and cancelling. They keep adding new free content to the Marketplace and next week, they will be adding the Elemental Demo and all of it’s content for free download!

A partial update list:

  • Official support for SteamOS/Linux
  • Improved iOS/Android workflow
  • New game templates
  • Over 100 improvements based on community feedback

Open Tournament: Rocket Launcher

The working title for the community UT clone in UE4 is now Open Tournament. Enos Shenk has been working like a mad man getting a rocket launcher into the game.  Way cool!
