Metalfist Papercraft UT Trophy!

The man with the most patience on the planet is at it again with UT papercraft goodies. Metalfist has put together instructions and templates to build the classic UT trophy! Only massive amounts of time and patience are standing between you and this beauty :).

I built the deemer a couple of years ago and it tested my concentration and patience to the max (and I built MCC-Hangar remember…) but this might be too cool to pass up.

UT Project Update 1/21/15: Marketplace update, general project update

Today’s  UT Project Twitch stream gave fascinating insight into how Epic will bring TF2-like functionality to the game by allowing people to make and buy custom hats and many other items on the marketplace.

Pete Knepley gave a live walkthrough of how to bring in a custom hat mesh into the game and make it playable.

Steve Polge discussed a rough target of springtime to open up the game to a wider audience for playtesting. Seems like quite a bit of work to do before then!

Lastly, the topic of Epic playtests with the community came up. Epic is planning on running servers very soon that will be set up to playtest with the community. I already got my arse handed to me once by a hammer-crazed Joe Wilcox on a public server over the holidays!

UT Project Update: Community Level Review, Art Update

Today’s UT project update focused on a couple of community maps (yay evilmrfrank) but more importantly, the reveals of YemYam’s high poly shock rifle. Truly amazing to see this beast come to life. I think many community fears were allayed with the first true high poly weapon visual shown so far.

In addition, Chris Perna showed off some great new Malcolm sketches. Okay, even though this week’s build sucks for some reason (can’t seem to get a good online connection), I’m excited about the game again!

The other exciting tidbit is that Epic announced that they’ve hired Gooba on contract! So awesome to see a community member make it to the big time!

BeyondUnreal Podcast 25 – Top Five Controversial Issues

The White Dragon and Sir Brizz are finally back and this time bringing a little heavier critical flavor on the current state of the game. They are fairly harsh about a number of different areas but it’s all about making UT4 the best game it can be.

UT 1/9/15 Build Available

The first new build of the UT pre-alpha in 2015 is here. Yay!  Use the Launcher to get auto-updated.

Here’s the highlights:

  • Lots of HUD improvements.
  • New Scoreboards.
  • Fixed networking issues where shot would fire on client but not on server.
  • Bot AI improvements.
  • Choose between two spawn points on respawn in Duel.
  • Stats improvements.

UT Programming Trello Board Update

Steve Polge made a number of updates to the UT programming Trello board that give you a feel for what he thinks is important for the next phase of development.  Here’s some of the highlights:

  1. Bots:  Complex tactical states
  2. Bots:  Improved power up timing/control
  3. Bots:  Predictive shooting
  4. Bots: Realistic bot aiming provides human like challenge at a variety of skill levels.
  5. Networking:  Fix all client/server firing synch issues
  6. Design and implement new matchmaking lobby system first for 1v1, then other game types

UT Project Update 1/7: UT Stats and HTML5

Today’s project update covers the addition of HTML stats in the game. This is really exciting from the standpoint of being able to easily embed stats and clan info into websites.

In addtion, Steve gave a quick overview of what’s coming in 2015. The next 3 months will be really exciting for UT!
