Open Tournament: Movement Comparison

Numb.51 of the Open Tournament team has posted an interesting video showing some movement characteristics of the current build along with early images of his Deck remake. In the video, he compares UT, UT2004, and UT3.

From a forum post in the Unreal Engine forums, Numb.51 states:

This video shows a comparison of every iteration of Unreal Tournament’s movement system with Open Tournament. Mainly we increased the gravity scale since we decided to include dodge jumping. Dodge jumping in UT2k4 was floaty and caused the game to be hit-scan dominant. Hopefully UT2k4’s movement and UT3 weapons will make a great game play experience.

Open Tournament: Rocket Launcher

The working title for the community UT clone in UE4 is now Open Tournament. Enos Shenk has been working like a mad man getting a rocket launcher into the game.  Way cool!

UE4-Based UT Clone Gaining Interest

I’ve been lurking around the UE4 forums lately, marveling at the amount of interest in the tools.

Today I stumbled on a post asking to form a team to build a UT clone in UE4! It really is good to see interest in moving forward on this. Frankly, I was waiting and hoping for someone to chime in and start it (someone younger and more energetic than myself!) so I’m excited to see it beginning.

Epic had previously been negative on this using the UDK but today, Alexander Pascall from Epic stopped by and left the following very encouraging post:

Server action 2/1/14

Apologies to all who played on the server last night (enoch, rasoula, ghost, cry, blackwolf etc.) for my continuous admin login/logout fiasco.  I bought a new mouse that has right side buttons that want to return to a previous function even after I reprogrammed them.

This caused the buttons to act like page up/page down which are my server admin login keys.  There were no admin hax going on honest :).  I will have this fixed the next time I play if I have to break out the sledgehammer!

On another note, at the end we started hitting some of the retail levels which I hadn’t played in a while.  Dayam I forgot how much they suck for UT!  Without  player tags, the players don’t stand out well like on low poly maps.  Lack of player visibility is why we lost some good folks out of the UT community like Fuegerstef. They are beautiful in many cases but they just don’t work in a fast paced shooter IMO.

Installed TalkingIcon Mutator on the Server

I finally got around to installing the TalkingIcon v1.0 mutator on the server.  If you’re not familiar with this, it places a bubble over your head if the full console or mini console are open and presumably the player is typing.  It is on the redirect so no need to download.

Liandri Vault Review: DM-UOF-LP-Genki

Wizd3m is going after another one of our faves on the MCC server,  Andrew “Mclogenog” Yoder’s DM-UOF-LP-Genki. The first paragraph of the map review will have you LOLing guaranteed!

I think the popularity of this map on the server is due to the, ahem, the older crowd that regularly hits the server :P.  I not only enjoy the fun layout of Genki but the ease of seeing my targets makes it a keeper for sure.

Wizd3m does point out some salient points regarding things like the use of the stock jump pads which I have to agree with.  However, having made custom pads myself in DM-MCC-SpaceNoxx, I can definitely understand not wanting to take the extra time!  Check out the review HERE.

Server lag issues addressed

I had the physical server that the MCC server is hosted on rebooted to see if we can fix the lag issues.  At the moment it looks like it has taken care of the problem but we will have to test it out further under load :P.

Liandri Vault Review: DM-UOF-LP-Diabolical

Wizd3m has a new review up of another UOF LP map, DM-UOF-LP-Diabolical. This map surprised me personally. My first thought when I saw the first screenshots is that it wouldn’t be much fun and I’d be falling off all of the time.

Surprisingly, the thing the makes the map for me was added in a post release fix! I’m referring to the variable fog which makes the map very dynamic and keeps up the interest level. Sure it’s a gimmick map but it’s surprisingly fun for me to mix things up between the usual maps.

Taken on its own, as a traditional UT map, it probably won’t get as high of marks which is how Wizd3m reviews it. Always entertaining to read, check out his new review HERE.

COMP Pack 2 Installed on the Server

All of the new COMP 2 maps are installed on the server. They are listed under the “Deathmatch – HOLP” vote menu. If you haven’t installed them yet, you should be able to get them from the redirect. Please post any issues in the forum.
