Liandri Vault Review: DM-CBP-SpaceIt

Wizd3m has a new review up of DM-CBP-SpaceIt.  He had pretty much the same reaction as I did while playing it.  It is a beautiful map but very dark and hard to see for my old eyes so unfortunately it won’t get much server time.  Check out his review HERE.

Updated TeamSpeak 3 voice codec on server

Updated the Teamspeak 3 server to 3.0.7 which is the version that supports the new Opus voice codec.  Clients will be asked to update 3.0.10 on the next start up.  Go ahead and install the update.  I also pushed the channel quality on all channels to 10.  The combination of channel quality 10 and the Opus codec is the maximum voice quality attainable in TeamSpeak 3.

Mapraider V2.0 is live!

The Mapraider website (link also on left) has been completely redone and the new layout is VERY sweet!  As before, it still has downloads for many different games including all UT’s.  Make sure the check it out and support it by commenting and rating on the site.

DM-1on1-Pure-Pro2 released

Neillithan has released an updated version of DM-1on1-Pure with a “Pro2” version.  It has improved lighting and other subtle changes.  I particularly noticed the dynamic shadows on the floor originating from the asteroid belt outside.  Way cool.  This one has nice clean action and a beautiful skybox!  Get it HERE.

Liandri Vault Review: CTF-Radiant

Wizd3m has a new map review up featuring CTF-CPB3-Radiant by Dan Rozanski.  It garners a perfect score!  Check it out HERE.

IGN, Gamespy closing down

As widely reported on the net, IGN is closing its doors.  Along with it, the Gamespy website and all of the “Planet” websites (Planet Unreal was mostly dead already anyway).  The scary part for us UT3’ers is what happens to the in-game browser, and game log in which was run in conjunction with Gamespy??

On the slightly unnerving side of things, Flak just posted on the Epic Forums “We’re checking into it.”.  I’m a bit surprised/worried that the answer wasn’t readily available.

Most likely everything will be fine but a worst case scenario would be that it would completely break the UT3 game log in preventing us from playing online at all even through direct IP.  I’m sure even in that case, a fix would be found at some point.

The Master Foundry is born!

Wizd3m has retooled and renamed his website!  What was once The Alternative Gamer is now The Master Foundry or T.M.F for short.  The site still contains his excellent UT3 reviews in the Liandri Vault section.  See the left sidebar for the new link!

Dear Esther

Okay, how about this for a detour from UT?  I’ve been looking for a game that was essentially diametrically opposed to UT3, just to bliss out on, and relax.  I tried Proteus but in the end, just couldn’t get past the 8-bit graphics.  I finally got around to trying Dear Esther which has been out about a year.

Well, I was initially drawn in by the game world but just as I was about to get bored, I entered the cave sequence which is some of the best graphics I’ve seen in a long time.  Great use of lighting and textures.  Will be interesting to see where it goes from here…

Unreal Sed 1.1.0 available

100GPing100 has been developing an IDE called Unreal Sed that specifically supports UnrealScript.  If you are scripting or have a desire to start, this might be a useful tool to get started.  He’s also been bringing regular updates and improvements to it so the capability is still expanding.  Read more and download on the UDK thread HERE.

DM-UntoldStorage by Mclogenog released

Andrew Yoder (aka Mclogenog), has released a new HOLP style map called DM-UntoldStorage.  Andrew has made a number of awesome maps including a fave on the server, DM-Psi.  More pics and download link on the Epic forum.
